Exercise is about improving muscle mass, but it can also be about losing weight for many people. They may see it as an additional way to keep off the pounds without excess dieting, and some of them feel the benefits outweigh the amount of work and time it takes. There are many different exercises people can choose, but most of those who are trying to lose weight are interested in burning off calories at the fastest rate possible.

While it is true that more effort will generally be equal to burning more calories, there are some exercises that are too strenuous for people just starting an exercise routine. While running a marathon every day would assure the majority of people an opportunity to have as many calories as they desire, it is not an ideal way to begin working out. There are exercises for beginners that will give them a better calorie burn without the chance of injury or taking up all their time.
